Grace and Truth

Grace and Truth Came

In John 1:17 we learn that the Law was given by Moses but Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Grace and truth are different from the Law. In Gal 3:17 we learn "And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect".

So God made a promise to Abraham. This promise was covenantal. That is an agreement made by God concerning things that he would do because of what Abraham did. Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness.  This was a promise and a covenant made by God to Abraham that all who believe are lessed with faithful Abraham.

430 Years After

God gave Moses the law 430 years after he gave Abraham the promise. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect

The promise that Justification woud come by faith through Jesus Christ was made 430 years before the Law came. The apostle then is right to ask :Wherefore thne serveth the Law?  If God promised to give righteousness by faith, what was the purpose of the Law. Who needs it?

What was the purpose of the Law

The scripture says Gal. 3:19  It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. There are two critical words her "added" and "till". The Mosaic Law had a beginning and the Mosaic law had a duration.  Till the seed come to whom the promise was made.

So the Law was given by Moses but when the seed came he brough Grace and truth,

What did Jesus Bring

Jesus brought Grace and Truth

1. For what the Law could not do, because it was weak through the flesh, God sending his only Son in the likeness of sin and for Sin condemned sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us.

Jesus brought the condemnation of Sin in the fleshto enable makind to licve a vistorious life. The Law coud not do that/

2. Grace brought salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. Just like he promissed Abraham  Eph: 2:8-9. The Law could not do that. Grace came by Jesus Christ.mans24

tified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

3. Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: The Law could not do that. It could not take a vile sinner and based purely on his faith. make the vilest sinner free. Grace does that. The Law could show them that they are a sinner,  but that where its function ended. But Grace could make a guilty sinner free.

4. In Titus 2:11-12

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world

5. Grace brought the incapacitation of sin. Death  reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin like Adam. It is only after Grace came that the devilish reign of sin and death was terminated.

Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ

Romans 5:21

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Nobody got eternal life by keeping the Law. Gal. 3:21 says:

Galatians 3:21

Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

It took Christ by his Grace to condemn the sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us. The Law coud not do what Christ did. This

The Grace of God and the Law were bith teachers. The Law served the role of bringing us unto Christ but having beeb brought to Christ his grace teaches us to denny ungoliness and sinful lusts,

So we dont look to Moses Law to know how to live we walk in Grace and Truth thaty came by Jesus Christ

As Jesus walked this earth he confronted sin with the Grace of God.  So we hear him saying:

Niether do I condemn thee - Go and sin no more.

He confronted Mess with Mercy and condemnation with compassion so that the rankest sinner can come boldly bdefore the throne of Grace to obtain  mercy and find grace to help in time of need,
