Sex an Invention and Perversion

Scheme 5  This scheme says that what we have today called “sex” was divinely given by God

whereas what we have today is an invention and perversion a device devised by man to replace God’s original design

 Many Inventions

The wise man said in Eccl. 7:29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions. That word inventions have been translated devices and schemes and in Psalm 106:39 “Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions”.

Do you think that these many schemes devices and inventions include sexual intercourse?

I want you to forget for a while what you know now, think of God’s original plan and encouragement – and think of where we are today. What we have today called sex, is it a major or a minor deviation from the original.

Here are the thoughts for consideration.

  1. Who we have sex with

  2. Where we have sex

  3. When we have sex

  4. Why we have sex

  5. How we have sex

Are the answers to these questions a major deviation from the upright standard that God created and do they Glorify God or not.

Who we have Sex with

This is a major consideration for God.

  1. You can’t have sex with another man’s wife.

  2. You can’t have sex with a virgin

  3. You can’t have sex with one of opposing spiritual values

  4. You can’t have sex with an animal

  5. You can’t have sex with one of the same sexual orientation

  6. You can’t have sex with one of the same family blood

  7. You can’t have sex with multiple partners

  8. You can’t have sex outside of the bonds of matrimony

  9. You can’t have sex with some one who did not give you consent

  10. You cannot – not have sex – except it be consensual – and one partner is giving themselves to prayer and fasting.

  11. You can’t have sex with a menstruating woman

These are an abomination unto the Lord.

Which of these activities you would consider immoral or illicit sexual behaviour.

Why we have Sex

  1. For the procreation of the human race

  2. For the expression of pleasure, joy and satisfaction with someone you love

Sex is not only the clashing of genitals but encompasses all the pre-play or fore-play and post-play that brings sexual gratification and conviction of love.

The wise man declared:

Prov. 5 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

Characteristics of the Hind (Doe / Female Deer)

• Graceful Beauty: The hind is admired for elegance and gentleness. This reflects the wife’s charm and attractiveness to her husband.

• Affectionate Nature: Deer are known for their tender, affectionate behavior. The imagery suggests a wife’s loving warmth.

• Faithfulness: In ancient symbolism, the hind was seen as loyal to its mate. This points to marital fidelity.

• Gentle Spirit: The hind is not aggressive but calm and nurturing, mirroring the wife’s role in cultivating peace in the home.

Characteristics of the Roe (Gazelle)

• Playfulness & Joy: Gazelles are lively, agile, and full of energy. This suggests delight, joy, and companionship in marriage.

• Attractiveness: Gazelles were admired in the ancient Near East for their beauty. The wife is portrayed as desirable and pleasing.

• Tenderness: Like the hind, the roe symbolizes gentleness and affection.

• Vitality: The roe’s quickness and vigor suggest that marital love should be vibrant,

Verse 16 This verse seem to be encouraging promiscuity. But, Remember, the bible was not written with commas and question marks. So the translators seem to have misinterpreted this verse to suggest an encouragement in promiscuity, but if this were so it would be contrary to the rest of the text which says:

17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. 18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Add a question mark at the end and see how meaningful it becomes:

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets? 17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. See how the meaning changes.

The Metaphor of Fountains

• Fountain = Source of Life / Vitality

In Hebrew thought, a fountain or spring symbolizes life-giving power, refreshment, and fruitfulness. Applied to marriage, the “fountain” represents a man’s generative capacity — his sexuality and offspring.

• Dispersed Abroad / Rivers in the Streets

This phrase warns against promiscuity. To have one’s “waters” flowing in the streets is to squander intimacy outside covenant, producing disorder and shame. It’s a picture of wasted vitality and illegitimate offspring scattered without covenantal protection.

•  Contrast

Instead of being “dispersed abroad,” the man is urged to keep his fountain blessed and contained within his marriage — rejoicing in the wife of his youth.

Theological Meaning

• Containment vs. Waste: Sexual energy is like water — powerful, life-giving, but meant to be channeled. Outside covenant, it becomes chaotic and destructive.

• Fruitfulness in Covenant: Within marriage, the fountain is “blessed,” producing legitimate rivers of life (children, joy, intimacy).

•  Public vs. Private: The streets symbolize exposure and shame; the cistern/fountain symbolizes privacy, exclusivity, and sacredness.

So that apart from procreation God encourages sexual fulfilment.

Takeaway Sexual intimacy is to be enjoyed with one partner each playing the Deer-Roe-Gzzelian Role to bring sexual joy and fulfillment to each other and not to go after each other to fulfil their own personal sexual desire.
