Incremental Revelation

For  want of a better terminology, I have titled this topic Incremental Revelation, This is not to be confused with the idea that there are New Truths or Present Truths different to or additional to the original truth.

The idea here is that there is one Truth. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life. There is no other truth. There is no new truth, or present truth, From the beginning Jesus has always been the Truth. In John 16:12 Jesus said "I have many things to say, but you cannot hear them now". Obviously Jesus's revelation to his apostles were time constrained. There were things that were to be told at different times. God in his quest to bring all men unto glory, being the Master Teacher as he is had a time table for the revelation of his will.

 Paul declares in Eph. 3:4-

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.

However we MUST bear in mind that Jesus Christ and the Apostles were the last message bearer.  In Mathew 17:5 God said "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him."  The apostles were advised to listen to Jesus.  And the writer to the Hebrews declares that God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son and went on to say in Heb.  2:3 that the thing spoken by Jesus Christ concerning salvation was confirmed unto us by them that heard him, the Lord bearing them witness with signs and wonders and divers miracles.

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit

So that God has not change the truth nor his message to fallen humanity but has used an incremental approach in revealing his will and displeasure in the affairs of man.

For instance, why didn't God say something when Reuben slept with Bilhah. Is it that god suddenly awoke in Lev. 16 and found out that he does not like a man to uncover the nakedness of his Father's wife.

Or what about lot's two daughters. Why did he not express his disgust for that kind of behaviour. Or when Abraham took Sarah  for his wife for she was  his sister.

Why did mankind have to wait hundreds of years to find out that these behaviours are an abomination to God. Find it in Lev, 18 and Deut. 22.

And in Gen. 41 Joseph, the one on whom all Israel's hope rest, he married  Asenath, daughter of Potiphera priests of on. You'll find yourself on a slippery slope if you use old testament events to justify new testament behaviours.
