The Entering of the Law

In Romans 5:20 We are told "moreover, the Law entered that the offense might abound.:"

In the earlier verses we learn that by one man's offense death reigned. Also by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin and so death pass upon all men. We all know who that one man is.

But Adam's offense was not the only offense. The free gift was for many offenses. The Bible says death reigned from Adam to Moses even upon those who did not sin after the similitude of Adam's transgression. Even upon man who did not sin like Adam did, death reigned.

The simlitude of Adam's Transgression

You did not have to sin like Adam to be a sinner, Or for death to reign over you, Adam's sin was a deliberate disobedience to God;s Law.

Take a man like Lamech, In Gen. 4:23 he said And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

Sin multiplied on the face of the earth and it hurt God immensely but in this pre-law condition it was left to their conscience to tell them this was wrong. â€‹

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

The Israelites had just come out of Egypt. In Lev, 18L2 He said, "I am the Lord Your God, after the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, ye shall not do, niether shall you walk in their ordinances".

God insisted that its time to put a stop to all the ungodly ways and practices that he had tolerated for a long time. Hence. Enter Lev. 18.

Here Comes the Law

It was added because of transgression .... till the seed come to whom the promise was made Gal. 3:19

There are many questions to be asked about this statement:

1. To What was the Law Added?

2. Why was it added?

3. What was to be its duration?

To What Was the Law Added

God promised Abraham righteousness by faith.  Gal.3:14-18. If God promised righteousness by faith why do we need the Law? t was added because of transgression. God's righteousness by faith does not exonerate you from living right or does not give you a license to sin. Thirtenn years after God declared Abraham rifgteous, God appeared to him and said "I am the almighty Gid, Walk before me and be thoug perfect." The Law was added to the promise that God gave to Abraham.

Why was it added

How ever that addition came 430 years after the promise. Gal. 3:17. SO the Law could not change or reverse the promise but it could show men how far away from God they were. It could show man how exceedingky sinful they were  and their immense need for a saviour.  Rom. 3:20.

For How Long it was to be in effect

Until the seed come to whom the promise was made. Because the Law was given by Moses but Grace and Truth came  by Jesus Christ. Jesus came with Grace, (Tit. 2:11) And that Grace brings salvation and tach us that denying that denying umgodliness and sinful lust they should live soberllt, righteously and Godly in thia present world.
