Some times it appears that God has double standards. Israel must not distress the Moabites (Deut. 2:9) but God disallows them from entering into the congregation of the Lord. It does appear that getting into the congregation of the Lord requires a hire standard of righteousness but that lower standard does not earmark one for destruction. God said(1) they did not meet the children of Israel with bread and water when they came out of Egypt and (2) they hired Balam the Son of Beor to curse the Israelites. What did the Moabites and the Ammonites have against Israel. We don’t know except they were a large company and they were afraid of them. But God had strictly warned Israel, Deut. 2:9 “ “And the Lord said unto me, ‘Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land for a possession, because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.:”
