The Man to whom the Lord Does not impute sin

Updated: Oct 22

I am fascinated by this expression. And I ask the question: Is there such a man. The Psalmist David is quoted in Rom 4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. And I ask again, Is there such a man? Yes there is. Abraham was such a man. First of all, Abraham was described as the man to whom the Lord imputed righteousness. Abraham did not earn righteousness. He did not work for righteousnes. Neither was he paid with righteousness for his works.

Rom. 4:1 says: What shall we say that Abraham our father as pertaining to the flesh hath found. The answer was not given but was implied by the next verse which said: For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. The answer then is obvious, Abraham did not receive righteousness for his works. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believe God and it was counted to him for righteousness. Paul continues to explain that if a man works and obtain righteousness as a result one cannot claim that grace was being metted out to him, It couldn't be grace because he worked for it. It is a debt. But if a man does not work but simply believes, God still gives him righteousness. His faith is counted for righteousness. In the language of the apostle Paul, righteousness is imputed to him.

The Psalmist is saying that the man to whom righteousness is imputed is a blessed man. He continues to describe that blessedness. He points out three blessings of the man to whom righteousness is imputed.

  1. His sins are covered

  2. HIs iniquities are forgiven and

  3. The lord will not impute sin to him.

Now thats a real blessed state to be in, To know that your iniquities are forgiven, your sins are covered and that even if you do sin the Lord will not impute sin to you. That seems like a very crazy thing for a man to sin and not be charged with it, But I didn't say it. God says he will not impute sin to anyone who has righteousness imputed to him. That man sins are covered, His iniquities are forgiven and sins will not be imputed to him,

Now what has become of those sins? All our sins were laid on Jesus Christ. He is the sin bearer.. Many people cannot fathom this truth, And to me it truly sounds unfathomable. But I must believe God.

So you can do what you want after that? No you cannot. The L ord of God says the Grace of God that bringeth salvation hat appered unto all men teaching them that denying ingodliness and sinful lusts they should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, Titus 2:11. God wants all his children to live righteously. He creditted Abraham with righteousness before he was circumcised and after the Hagar/Sarah fiasco he siad in Gen. 17:1 Walk before me and be thou perfect. God acknowledges that even though he credits his children with righteousness they stll need to be cautioned to walk right before God.

This blessedness comes not only on the circumcised but on the uncircumsised. In other words any one who believes in God gets that blessedness also. The reason why God gave righteousness to Abraham while he was uncircumcised is that all of humanity circumcised or uncircumcised will be his children once they believe. verse 11 says that he mioght be the father of them that believe though they be not circumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also.

We thank God for his grace and his mercy who has so designed it that all believers will be blessed with faithful Abraham.
